There's a lot of head shaking going on over the Ottawa Senators' attendance struggles and Toronto Maple Leafs' on-ice woes.
Everywhere in Canada except one place, not a single seat has gone unsold since the lockout. But when your arena is miles out of the city and your team has generally been a disappointment the past two seasons, it does present some challenges.

With his move back to Russia after butting heads with Ken Hitchcock, it seems the only solution is for Columbus to trade Nikita Filatov.

Despite the fact Bettman and Medvedev will sit down and talk, there isn't much hope for a working partnership between the two leagues.
The fact Kontinental League president Alexander Medvedev requested a meeting Wednesday night with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman in Washington might lead a person to believe the two sides will finally be able to begin to iron out their differences and co-exist.

THN.com Blog: GMs not interested in changing trapezoid rule

by Ken Campbell - November 10, 2009 7:25 PM EST

At the first day of GM meetings, the trapezoid rule was left untouched and head shots will be the focus for tomorrow.
If the GMs are ultimately going to do anything about head shots in the NHL – and there are certainly no guarantees they will – it will not include taking away the trapezoid behind the net.

The league's GMs would be wise to use the upcoming meetings to decide exactly whether or not reckless hits and injuries are an issue worth dealing with.
The NHL’s public relations department has taken to hyping up next week’s GMs meetings in a way they never have before, referring to the two-day clambake as a “Meeting of the Minds.

Sens owner Eugene Melnyk can bellyache all he wants about Heatley's trade demand, but it's not going to get him his money back.
It’s probably safe to say Dany Heatley isn’t tossing and turning at night over the grievance filed against him by Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk.

With Daniel out and Henrik still putting up points, should Alain Vigneault put the two on separate lines?
The hockey world in general, and the Vancouver Canucks in particular, have always wondered how the Sedin twins would do if they were split up.

The four-man group will surely recommend the hammer be brought down on several of the union's upper-management in the hopes of a fresh start.
The NHL Players’ Association apparently has about $850,000 a year to spend on a part-time ombudsman and six division player representatives, so you’d have to think it will be sparing no expense in its latest internal review.

A dangerous hit from behind on Scott Gomez Tuesday night should have the league levying a long suspension on the talented Thrasher.
Slava Kozlov doesn’t exactly fit the profile of an on-ice menace, but NHL disciplinarian Colin Campbell should treat him like one when looking at Kozlov’s cross-check from behind on Scott Gomez Tuesday night.

by Ken Campbell - October 14, 2009 9:15 PM EDT

The former NHLer writes candidly about Graham James, his substance abuse and his thoughts on many NHL players and personalities.
There’s a certain irony to Theo Fleury’s new book, Playing With Fire. He said he wrote it because he wants to help people, particularly young people who have been subjected to sexual abuse, but the fact is this book should come with a “Keep out of the reach of children” label attached to it.
