Islanders bolster blue line, acquiring rugged defenseman Carson Soucy from Rangers for a future draft pick. Family focus fuels the move.

The New York Islanders are sending their 2026 third-round pick to the New York Rangers for defenseman Carson Soucy, per ESPN's Emily Kaplan.

Soucy, 31, is a left-shot defenseman and has eight points (three goals, five assists) in 46 games played with the Rangers this season. He is expected to play on the club's bottom pairing and on the penalty kill.

In 411 career games, the Alberta native has 30 goals and 65 assists for 95 points split between the Rangers, Vancouver Canucks, Seattle Kraken, and Minnesota Wild.

He is in the final year of a three-year, $9.75 million contract ($3.25 million AAV) and is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Soucy missed time earlier this month to welcome his third child, so he gets to stay close to home to be with his family.
