New Jersey Devils captain Nico Hischier and defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler are on top of the world.

    Literally.

Earlier this week, the Devils players joined fellow Swiss NHLers Nino Niederreiter, Pius Suter, and Philipp Kurashev to participate in the "World's Highest Hockey Game" at Jungfraujoch in Switzerland.

Per Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe's Instagram page, "NHL pros and players of SC Bern battled it out in thin air, ending with a thrilling 6-5 victory for the NHL team."

Known as the highest accessible point in Europe, Jungfraujoch is listed as 3,454 meters (11,333 feet) above sea level. Though the game was billed as the "World's Highest Hockey Game," the highest altitude game of ice hockey was 4,361 meters, and according to the Guinness World Record was achieved by Adam Sherlip and The Hockey Foundation in Chibra Kargyam, Ladakh, J&K, India, on Feb. 6, 2018.

    Described as a high

    alpine wonderland

of ice, snow, and rock, one can view the Swiss Plateau as far as France on one side and the Aletsch Glacier, lined with four thousand meter peaks, on the other.

Hischier and Siegenthaler represented Switzerland at the 2024 IIHF World Championship in Prague and Ostrava earlier this summer. The young Devils captain had an impressive tournament, earning 11 points (six goals, five assists) in 10 games.

Their team finished as the runner-up to hosts Czechia, who won the title for the seventh time, beating Switzerland 2–0 in the final.
