Abbott joins the Wolves after a long coaching stint in Sweden

The Chicago Wolves have named Cam Abbott as their new head coach, the team announced Thursday.

A product of Sarnia, Ont., Abbott joins the Wolves after spending parts of seven seasons as head coach of Rogle BK in the SHL.

Prior to beginning his coaching career in 2016, Abbott enjoyed an eight-year professional career that saw him make stops in the ECHL, CHL, Sweden. and Norway.

Before going pro, Abbott played for the Cornell Big Red from 2002-2006, scoring 23 goals and adding 39 assists for 62 points in 125 career games.

After hanging up his skates in 2015, Abbott got his first coaching job prior to the 2016-17 season with the Vaxjo Lakers HC J20 as their head coach.

Abbott would spend parts of two seasons in that role before joining Rogle BK (SHL) midway through the 2017-18 season. Abbott would serve as their head coach until his dismissal in Dec. 2023.

As Abbott makes his way to North America for his first coaching opportunity, he will have the chance to make an impression with the Wolves. If he can help the Wolves back to a winning record, he could put himself on the radar for an NHL coaching role very soon.
