The Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed forward Ryan Suzuki to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Wednesday.
The deal will see Suzuki make $775,000 if he is at the NHL level and $70,000 if he's in the AHL. The contract also guarantees Suzuki $90,000.
Suzuki, a 2019 first round pick of the Hurricanes, spent this past season playing for the Springfield Thunderbirds where he scored 14 goals and added 16 assists for 30 points in 51 games.
Over parts of four seasons in the AHL with the Thunderbirds and Chicago Wolves, Suzuki has 86 points in 161 career games.
Prior to joining the professional ranks, Suzuki played his junior hockey in the OHL with the Barrie Colts and Saginaw Spirit, collecting 181 points in 185 games over parts of three seasons.
While Suzuki has the puck skills and processing ability to make an impact at the NHL level, he is the only 2019 first-round pick who has yet to make his NHL debut.
It will be interesting to see if Suzuki can make the team out of camp or get a call up next season. With what is expected to be a different Hurricanes roster come the fall, Suzuki might just be able to sneak his way onto the roster with a strong training camp and preseason.
