The Charlotte Checkers have released forward Matt Luff from his professional try-out, it was announced Wednesday.
Having gotten into six games with the team in 2024-25, Luff scored two goals and added two assists for four points.
A product of Oakville, Ont., Luff spent last season with the Grand Rapids Griffins where he put up 10 goals and 18 points in 26 games. Over parts of nine seasons in the AHL, Luff has 167 points in 229 career regular season games.
Before turning pro at the end of the 2016-17 season, Luff played junior hockey in the OHL with the Belleville Bulls and the Hamilton Bulldogs.
With Luff not able to earn a contract with the Checkers, it will be interesting to see if he can find another team in the AHL or if he will consider heading overseas.
