The Coachella Valley Firebirds have signed forward Damien Giruoux to a one-year deal, the team announced Tuesday.
Giroux split the 2023-24 season between the Rochester Americans and the Jacksonville Icemen (ECHL). In 30 games with Rochester, he scored four goals and added seven assists for 11 points. With Jacksonville, Giroux had 15 points in 17 regular season games and two goals in six playoff games.
Drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Draft, Giroux spent three seasons with the organization before departing last offseason.
Since turning pro in 2020, the Sudbury, Ont., product has collected 59 points in 179 AHL regular season games. Before jumping to the pro level, Giroux spent four seasons in the OHL playing for the Saginaw Spirit.
As Giroux heads to the Firebirds, he will have the opportunity to cement a role for himself in training camp. Although this was the first season of his career where he saw ECHL time, Giroux has proven he is a solid depth piece for a contending AHL team and should fit the bill well with Coachella Valley.
