The Coachella Valley Firebirds have re-signed goaltender Jack LaFontaine to a one-year deal, the team announced Thursday.
Drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the third round of the 2016 NHL Draft, LaFontaine spent time with the Kansas City Mavericks (ECHL) and Firebirds this past season. In 23 regular season appearances with Kansas City, he posted a 16-3-1 record to go along with a 2.77 GAA and a .911 SV%. With Coachella Valley, LaFontaine had a 2-0-0 record, a 2.30 GAA and a .919 SV% in three appearances.
Prior to turning pro during the 2021-22 season, LaFontaine played five years of NCAA hockey with Michigan and Minnesota. In 96 appearances, he had a 48-35-7 record, a 2.52 GAA and a .915 SV%.
Although LaFontaine has spent the majority of the past two seasons in the ECHL, he has a good opportunity to win a spot out of training camp and stick with the Firebirds. He showed well in his brief stint with the team last season and proved that he has what it takes to stick at the AHL level.
