The Colorado Avalanche have re-assigned two players to Colorado Eagles training camp, the team announced Tuesday.
Forward Chad Hillebrand and defenseman Devante Stephens were sent down after spending time with the Avalanche at training camp.
Hillebrand, a product of Park Ridge, Ill., spent last season with Western Michigan (NCAA) and the Eagles. In 38 games with the Broncos, Hillebrand scored seven goals and added 19 assists for 26 points. He also got into two games with the Eagles at the end of the season but did not register a point.
Stephens, who hails from White Rock, B.C., spent the 2023-24 season playing for the Syracuse Crunch. In 56 regular season games, he collected seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points. Stephens also added three points in eight playoff games.
Although they were sent down, both Stephens and Hillebrand should be able to carve out roles with the Eagles. Hillebrand showed he could produce at the NCAA level and can leverage his big frame to get to scoring areas. Stephens has shown an offensive touch over his time in the AHL and shouldn't have a problem finding that again.
