Cicek spent most of the 2023-24 season with the Abbotsford Canucks

Former Abbotsford Canucks defenseman Nick Cicek has signed a one-year deal with Adler Mannheim of the DEL, it was announced Thursday.

Cicek, a native of Winnipeg, Man., split this past season between Abbotsford and the San Jose Barracuda. Cicek started out the season with the Barracuda before being traded to Vancouver for Jack Studnicka.

In 18 games with the Barracuda, Cicek registered three points. With Abbotsford, he had three goals and 10 assists for 13 points in 49 regular season games.

Since turning pro prior to the 2021-22 season, Cicek has appeared in 157 AHL regular season games, registering 44 points in the process. He also saw 16 games with the San Jose Sharks in 2022-23, collecting four assists.

As Cicek makes his way over to Germany, he has the skills to make an immediate impact. While he most likely could have signed a two-way deal, he chooses to go overseas to continue his pro career. Cicek is still young and will be one to watch if he produces as NHL teams always need depth on their blue line.
