The Hershey Bears have released forward Zac Funk from his amateur try-out, it was announced Sunday.
A product of Vernon, B.C., Funk was signed to an entry-level deal by the Capitals in March as one of the top free agents in the CHL.
Having just finished his overage season with the Prince George Cougars of the WHL, Funk signed an ATO with the Bears two weeks ago but never got into any games.
Over parts of six seasons in the WHL, Funk played for the Cougars and Calgary Hitmen where he had 132 goals and 121 assists for 253 points in 253 career games.
As he makes the transition to the pro game next year, Funk has the chance to make an impact right away thanks to how he processes the game. He knows how to slip into space undetected and can get the puck off his stick with little time and space.
