Sop has impressed this season with the Iowa Heartlanders

The Iowa Wild have recalled forward Matthew Sop from the Iowa Heartlanders, it was announced Saturday.

Sop, who is in his first pro season, has had an impressive start to the 2024-25 campaign, compiling seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points in 12 games with the Heartlanders.

A product of Kitchener, Ont., Sop signed with Iowa in June after a five-year OHL career with the Kitchener Rangers. Over 203 career OHL regular season games, he scored 76 goals and added 93 assists for 169 points.

As Sop gets his first opportunity to get into an AHL game, he should add an instant offensive flair to the Wild's lineup. Having been one of the better OHL producers over the past two seasons and having shown no signs of slowing down in his pro career, Sop should have a good opportunity to stick with the Wild.
