Ottenbreit spreng the 2023-24 season playing for the KHL's Kunlun Red Star

The Coachella Valley Firebirds have signed defenseman Turner Ottenbreit to a one-year deal, the team announced Tuesday.

A product of Yorkton, Sask., Ottenbreit spent this past season playing for the KHL's Kunlun Red star where he scored one goal and added seven assists for eight points in 64 regular season games.

Having turned pro at the end of the 2017-18 season, Ottenbreit has played in the ECHL (Utah Grizzlies & Allen Americans), KHL (Kunlun Red Star) and AHL (San Antonio Rampage & Iowa Wild).

Prior to turning pro, Ottenbreit played in the WHL with the Saskatoon Blades and the Seattle Thunderbirds - putting up 108 points in 284 career games.

As Ottenbreit returns to North America, he could be a sneaky good depth signing for the Firebirds. While he had a bit of a down year when it comes to offense, Ottenbreit had 20 points with the Wild in the 2021-22 season. If he can find that form again, he will be an important piece on the Firebirds blueline as they look to get back to the Calder Cup finals.
