The New Jersey Devils have re-signed forward Brian Halonen to a two-year, two-way contract, the team announced Thursday.
Halonen finished second on the Comets this past season with 20 goals, trailing only Graeme Clarke by five despite playing 32 less games.
If Halonen is on the Devils in either year of his deal, he will make $775,000 but if he is with Utica, he will make $175,000 in 2024-25 and $275,000 in 2025-26.
Halonen joined the Devils organization in March 2022 after spending four seasons in the NCAA with Michigan Tech. In 139 career games, he scored 53 goals and collected 105 points.
Prior to the NCAA, Halonen played his junior hockey with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL where he had 37 points in 67 games over parts of two seasons.
Halonen made his NHL debut with the Devils on Feb. 25, 2024 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He saw a total of two games this past season where he was held pointless.
Heading into next year, Halonen looks like a solid depth option for the Devils. Considering his production, he could make some noise in camp if he can stay healthy.
