The Lehigh Valley Phantoms have signed defensemen Sam Sedley and Xavier Bernard to one-year deals, the team announced Tuesday.
Sedley, a product of St. Mary's, Ont.,, spent the 2023-24 season playing for the Owen Sound Attack (OHL). In 64 regular season games, he scored nine goals and added 54 assists for 63 points. Sedley also appeared in four playoff games with the Attack, collecting two assists.
Over the course of his four-year OHL career, all with the Attack, Sedley had 168 points in 236 regular season games.
Bernard, who hails from Mercier, Que., spent this past season playing for the Bakersfield Condors and the Fort Wayne Komets (ECHL). With the Komets, Bernard scored three goals and added 13 assists for 16 points in 64 games.. In his time with Bakersfield, he went pointless in two games.
Drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round of the 2018 NHL Draft, Bernard never signed with the team and turned pro in 2021. Since then, he has bounced between the AHL and ECHL.
With Sedley and Bernard now heading to the Phantoms, Lehigh Valley is getting two players who could step into their lineup and provide an impact, albeit in two different ways.
Sedley proved to be dangerous with the puck on his stick in the OHL and Bernard does a good job shutting down opponents using his size.
