The Philadelphia Flyers have re-signed defenseman Adam Ginning to a two-year, two-way/one-way extension, the team announced Monday.
The deal will see Ginning make $787,500 at the NHL level in both years of his deal.
Drafted by the Flyers in the second round of the 2018 NHL Draft, Ginning spent this season playing for both the Flyers and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. In nine regular season games with the Flyers, Ginning registered a goal. In 58 regular season games with the Phantoms, Ginning scored two goals and added 13 assists for 15 points.
The Phantoms made the Calder Cup Playoffs as well, making it to the second round before being eliminated by the Hershey Bears. In six playoff games with the team, Ginning had an assist.
Prior to coming to North America before the 2022-23 season, Ginning played parts of six seasons in the SHL with Linkoping HC and Farjestad BK where he had eight goals and 21 assists for 29 points in 216 games.
Known more for his ability to defend in his own end, Ginning does a good job defending the rush and in front of his own net. He uses his stick to keep players to the perimeter of the defensive zone and makes it hard for anyone to gain poisoning in front of his net.
As Ginning enters his third season in North America, it would not be a surprise to see the Flyers start to give him a longer look at the NHL level. With his NHL games increasing over the past two seasons, Ginning could become an everyday option for the Flyers soon.
