The Rockford IceHogs have signed forward Gerry Mayhew to a one-year deal, the team announced Sunday.
Hailing from Wyandotte, Mich., Mayhew spent the past two seasons playing for the Charlotte Checkers. In 2023-24, Mayhew scored 19 goals and added 18 assists for 37 points in 68 regular season games. He added a further two points in three playoff games.
Over his seven-year pro career, Mayhew has played for the Minnesota Wild, Philadelphia Flyers and the Anaheim Ducks. In 57 career NHL regular season games, Mayhew has scored 13 goals and added two assists for 15 points.
Prior to turning pro, Mayhew played four years at Ferris State, putting up 119 points in 150 career games. An undrafted free agent, Mayhew signed with the Iowa Wild out of school and quickly proved himself to be a valuable part of the team.
As Mayhew joins his fourth AHL team, he should slot into the top six seamlessly and make an immediate impact. As someone who has also proven to be a reliable depth player at the NHL level, Mayhew may even play himself into a situation to be considered for a call-up.
