The San Jose Barracuda have signed defenseman Braden Hache to a one-year contract, the team announced Monday.
Fresh off captaining the Saginaw Spirit to a Memorial Cup title, Hache will turn pro next season.
A veteran of 256 OHL games, Hache scored 19 goals and added 51 assists for 70 points in parts of four seasons with the Kingston Frontenacs, Barrie Colts and Saginaw Spirit.
"Braden just concluded an outstanding final season of junior hockey with the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL, serving as their captain, and winning the Memorial Cup as the host team," Barracuda GM Joe Will said in the team's press release. “We’re excited for him to join our team and we think he’ll be a great addition to our corps of young defensemen.”
In one of the most dramatic Memorial Cup games in recent memory, the Spirit took a 3-0 lead over the London Knights before the Knights came storming back to tie it.
With just over 20 second left on the clock though, the Spirit re-gained the lead and took home the franchise's first ever Memorial Cup.
In winning the title, Hache ended his OHL career at the highest point and will look to take that momentum into next season.
