Bowers spent this past season splitting his time between the Devils and Comets

The New Jersey Devils have re-signed forward Shane Bowers to a two-year, two-way contract, the team announced Tuesday.

The contract will see Bowers make $775,000 at the NHL level in both 2024-25 and 2025-26 but it differs if he plays in the AHL. If he spends time in Utica, he will make $200,000 at the AHL level in 2024-25 and $225,000 in 2025-26.

Acquired by the Devils last summer in a trade with the Bruins, Bowers spent the majority of the season in Utica where he scored 10 goals and added four assists for 14 points in 43 games. Bowers suited up in eight games for the Devils but was held pointless.

Originally selected by the Ottawa Senators in the first round (28th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft, Bowers was traded to the Avalanche in Nov. 2017 in the deal that saw the Senators acquire Matt Duchene.

This past season was the first time Bowers got an extended look in the NHL. Before that, he only saw one game with the Avalanche in the 2022-23 season.

While Bowers may not have a high-offensive ceiling, he has the chance to be a solid bottom-six energy player for the Devils that can make an impact at both ends of the ice.

This contract was a worthy gamble for the Devils and will ensure they continue to have solid depth in their system as they look to bounce back into contention.
