The Montreal Canadiens are adding former 70-point defenceman Noah Dobson from the New York Islanders.

The Noah Dobson sweepstakes have been won by the Montreal Canadiens as the add the 25-year-old Summerside native with the return package including Emil Heineman and both of Montreal’s first-round picks tonight at 16th and 17th overall.

Dobson will sign an eight-year extension at a $9.5 million cap hit. The Habs will have one of the most lethal bluelines in the NHL as he will have the chance to play alongside Calder trophy winner Lane Hutson.

Rumors had been swirling for some time as to who would land Dobson as he began to have problems with the organization on multiple fronts including a new contract.

Dobson is coming off a solid 39-point season, but it was the year prior where he truly flashed his potential, racking up 70 points with 10 goals and 60 assists.

The addition of Dobson make the Habs a legit contender in the Eastern Conference as they are coming off a first round loss to the Washington Capitals, where Montreal's young core gained more valuable playoff experience.

The Habs are listed with +7000 odds to win the Stanley Cup but should be considered as a value pick to potentially make it out of the Eastern Conference. Montreal becomes a solid pick to make the playoffs at minimum.
