The Atlanta Gladiators are closing in on a date with history following a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over the game South Carolina Stingrays last night.
Luke Prokop netted the game-winning goal four minutes into OT, with Gladiators netminder Tyler Harmon serving up a top-tier 40-save performance.
The Gladiators lead the South Division and sit second in the Eastern Conference after pushing their win streak to seven games to start the young season. The Gladiators are just two wins shy of tying the longest winning streak to start an ECHL season, a record held by the 2022 Worcester Railers at nine straight games.
Elsewhere, the Newfoundland Growlers rebounded from a tough loss to the Railers with a dominant 4-0, 33 save shutout off the back of goaltender Luke Cavallin, but the bigger story had little to do with the box score.
Railers forward Jack Quinlivan suited up for his first start with the club since December of 2022 when an errant hit led to doctors discovering a lump that inevitably resulted in a cancer scare and numerous surgeries for the Massachusetts native.
Quinlivan spoke with The Hockey News this past off-season, outlining his rocky road to recovery and return to the ice.
