Does the trade work in NHL 24?

On Thursday night the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired Ilya Lyubushkin in a three-way trade with the Anaheim Ducks and Carolina Hurricanes. 

We at The Hockey News decided to boot up Franchise Mode in NHL 24 and see if we could recreate the trade. Due to the inability to create three-way trades we decided to have Toronto deal with Anaheim directly in two different scenarios, one with both the third and sixth round picks, one with just the third round pick, both with 50% salary retained.

For these videos we used the most recent February 20th roster update with default Franchise Mode settings and trade difficulty on medium. 

The Anaheim Ducks ultimately agreed to make the trade with Toronto in both scenarios while retaining 50% of Lyubushkin's salary. Fittingly, Anaheim had the Russian defender on the trade block in the second trade we made.
