Former Nebraska-Omaha and North Dakota defenseman Jonny Tychonick has signed a one-year deal with Djurgardens IF in Sweden, it was announced this past week.
A 2018 second-round pick of the Ottawa Senators, Tychonick spent this past season playing for the Toronto Marlies (AHL) and Newfoundland Growlers (ECHL).
In four games with the Marlies, Tychonick had three points while collecting six goals and 37 assists for 43 points in 51 games with the Growlers.
Over five NCAA seasons split between the Mavericks and Fighting Hawks, Tychonick scored 17 goals and added 40 assists for 57 points in 134 games played.
As Tychonick makes the journey to Sweden's second-tier pro league (HockeyAllsvenskan), he will have the opportunity to play everyday with the team. If he can produce, he should have no problem attracting attention from AHL teams and could potentially play himself into a contract if he hopes to come back to North America.
