Abbotsford Heat top Grand Rapids Griffins 3-2 in shootout

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Jon Rheault, Kris Chucko and Staffan Kronwall all scored in the shootout Friday as the Abbotsford Heat topped the Grand Rapids Gryphons 3-2 in both teams' American Hockey League opener.

Carter Bancks and Matt Keith scored in regulation for the Heat (1-0-0), while Brendan Smith and Jamie Johnson replied for the Gryphons (0-0-1).

Keith's power-play goal at 18:41 of the third tied the score 2-2.

Leland Irving made 36 saves in regulation and overtime for Abbotsford, while Joey MacDonald stopped 26 shots for Grand Rapids.
