Heading into Friday night, Lake Erie Monsters center Colin Smith had just one goal in his past fifteen games. If every scoring drought leads to a goal like Friday’s overtime winner, Monsters fans certainly won’t mind.

Smith, who had nine goals and 26 points heading into the Monsters’ contest against the Marlies, danced around Toronto blueliner Viktor Loov by putting the puck through his own legs, cut to the inside and slid the puck past goaltender Antoine Bibeau.

The goal, Smith’s 10th of the season and 27th point in 43 games, was one you’d expect out of a 50-goal scorer. The move the young center made to get around Loov is something we’ve seen time and time again from stars like Ovechkin and MacKinnon.

A seventh-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche in 2012, Smith scored eight goals and 34 points for the Monsters last season. With tallies like this, he’s well on his way to besting that point total this season.
