Ak Bars Kazan beats HC MVD 3-2 in Game 1 of the KHL's Gagarin Cup final

In Game 1 of the Kontinental's League final, defending Gagarin Cup champion Ak Bars Kazan beat HC MVD 3-2.

In front of a sold out crowd in Balashikha, home of HC MVD, a scoreless first was followed by an offensive explosion of four goals in the second stanza. The two teams took back and forth swipes, with HC MVD's Alexei Ugarov opening the scoring. A couple minutes later, Ak Bars evened the game on a goal by Alexander Stepanov. HC MVD took the lead back on a power play marker by Pavel Trakhanov, but was again equaled shortly after on a goal by Niko Kapanen.

Five minutes into the third frame, Dmitry Obukhov scored what ended up being the game-winner on a one-on-one against HC MVD goaltender Michael Garnett.

Ak Bars managed 26 shots, while HC MVD was held to 16.

Game 2 of the final will be played Friday.
