Alfredsson returns home as a winner with Ottawa as Sens beat Frolunda 4-1

GOTEBORG, Sweden - Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson scored one goal and set up another against his former team Thursday as the Senators beat the Frolunda Indians 4-1 in a pre-season game.

Jason Spezza also had a goal and an assist for Ottawa, which opens the NHL regular season with a doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Swedish capital of Stockholm this weekend.

Chris Kelly and Alfredsson, who last played for Frolunda during the 2004-05 NHL lockout season, gave the Senators a 2-0 lead within a span of 1:12 midway through the first period.

Oscar Hedman got one back for the Swedish Elite League team halfway through the second session.

Alexandre Picard and Spezza put the game away within 1:44 early in the third period before a capacity crowd of 12,020 at Scandinavium Arena.

The game, played on the larger European ice surface, sold out in 16 minutes when tickets were first made available in Sweden's second-largest city.

Frolunda, which won the Swedish league in 2004-05 with Alfredsson in the lineup, had eight players on its roster with NHL experience.

Ottawa (4-2-0) leaves for Stockholm on Friday. The first game against Pittsburgh is Saturday.
