Andrei Vasilevskiy unveils amazing mask for AHL Frozen Dome Classic

The AHL isn't quite heading outdoors, but the Frozen Dome Classic is a home game away just down the road for the Syracuse Crunch. To commemorate the AHL team's shot at breaking the indoor attendance record, goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy has an amazing new mask.

They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but can you judge a goalie by his or her mask? If so, Andrei Vasilevskiy is an absolute star. The Tampa Bay Lightning prospect, taken in the first round, 19th overall, in 2012, had his new, custom mask posted by Sylvie Marsolais over at Quebec’s Sylabrush:

The mask, which features a nod to Syracuse University, will be worn during the American League’s Frozen Dome Classic, which will take place inside Syracuse’s Carrier Dome on Saturday, Nov. 22. Tampa Bay’s affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch, will play hot to the Utica Comets, the affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks. As it stands, the Crunch have sold more than enough tickets to make it the largest crowd to ever watch an AHL indoor game. The previous attendance record was set in 1997 when the Kentucky Thoroughbreds visited the Carolina Monarchs and played in front of 20,672 fans. With tickets still on sale, there’s an outside chance that the game could boast the largest crowd to ever watch a hockey game inside four walls. Coincidentally, the Tampa Bay Lightning hold the current record for indoor hockey attendance. The record setting attendance was 28,183, as the Lightning played host to the Philadelphia Flyers in a playoff game at the Thunderdome, now renamed Tropicana Field, on April 23, 1996.
