Following the trade that sent T.J. Oshie from St. Louis to Washington, a video of a 5-year-old Libby Lu, an Oshie fan upset by the trade, went viral. But Oshie made good on bringing a smile to his young fan’s face by sending her a box full of Washington Capitals merchandise, as well as an autographed jersey.
Shortly after T.J. Oshie was dealt from the St. Louis Blues to the Washington Capitals, a video surfaced of a young Blues fan upset by the trade. But Thursday, 5-year-old Libby Lu may have become one of the biggest fans of Oshie rocking the red.
Oshie and the Capitals, after hearing about the video and seeing how upset Lu was, put together a care package for the Blues fan that may have her changing her allegiance this upcoming season. The package included an autographed Oshie jersey and Capitals mini stick, stickers and clothes. Not a bad haul.
The above video of Libby – which is the clip that went viral following the trade between the Blues and Capitals – scored her an appearance on ESPN this past Sunday, which led to a phone conversation with Oshie. In the interview, Libby, who’s quite shy about speaking to her hockey-playing hero, gets told that she can come check out Oshie’s new house when the building is completed.
But, fortunately for Libby, the Blues are in the Western conference and the Capitals are in the Eastern. So, should she so choose, she can be a fan of teams from both conferences. And if both teams happen to meet in the Stanley Cup final, we don’t think Libby would mind seeing either the Blues or Oshie hoist the Stanley Cup.
