A linesman to remember

Teri-Lea Knee, Regina, Sask.

I live in a small city and the closest NHL team is the Calgary Flames.

I was fortunate enough to get tickets to the NHL pre-season game between the Senators and the Lightning on our ice

I got great seats for myself, nephew and sister – second row at the top of the faceoff circle.

Although it was the superstars that I was anxious to see, it was a linesmen who made my night.

During a stoppage in play, he skated over to me, motioned to my nephew, and tossed the game puck over the glass for me to give to Ben.

It was the best moment of the game, which is to say a lot because the game was amazing!

It is always a given that the players will amaze the crowd, but to me, Mark Shewchyk will be the topic of the story that I tell for many years to come.

The memory will live on forever on the shelf of my nine-year-old nephew’s bookcase.

Thanks, No. 92!
