VANCOUVER – A youth accused of looting a downtown luxury store during Vancouver’s Stanley Cup riot appears to have made a choice between facing his family and facing the police.
Burnaby RCMP say the young man, who cannot be identified due to his age, was arrested Thursday after he turned himself into police.
He arrived at the detachment with a family member after images of what police say appear to be him looting during the Game 7 riot appeared on the Internet.
He has been charged with theft offences over $5,000 in relation the destruction of a Vancouver police car and the looting of the Louis Vuitton store in the Hotel Vancouver.
Police applauded the young man for taking responsibility for his actions and urge others to do the same.
Note to readers: This is a corrected story. The Burnaby youth was arrested Thursday.
