AHL’s Hershey Bears to wear hilarious Groundhog Day jerseys

The Hershey Bears will be wearing special Groundhog Day jerseys on Feb. 1, and they are the best jerseys you’ll see all year. With a groundhog looking miserable in the snow on the front and one sipping a beverage on the back, these threads are sure to at least make you smile.

By Monday, Feb. 2, Punxsutawney Phil, the most famous groundhog of them all, will emerge to let North America know whether or not to expect six more weeks of hockey weather. The day before, however, Hershey Bears fans can get a glimpse of what an early spring or longer winter could look like. For the Bears’ Feb. 1 showdown with the Norfolk Admirals, the team will don special Groundhog Day jerseys, which will go up for auction following the game. The jerseys, which are good for a laugh, are split from front to back: the front has six more weeks of winter, while the back shows the groundhog living large during spring.

Hershey Bears Groundhog Jerseys

There’s so much going on with these threads that it’s hard to know where to begin. First, the Bears logo wearing a Frosty-esque hat is a nice touch to the winter side of things. Add to it the miserable expression on the groundhog’s face and how the little guy is geared up with a scarf and a hat while snow falls all around him, and you have all the makings of a good winter scene. On the back, the reason this jersey rules begins and ends with the groundhog sipping out of a tall glass with an umbrella shading him. If that’s what spring looks like in Hershey, it’s going to turn into a vacation hotspot. We can only imagine what the reactions of the players are when they slip these duds on. Good on you, Hershey, for having a bit of fun with it. If you love the jerseys, you can own one, as they’ll go up for auction at a later date.
