Avalanche look to bounce back vs. lowly Thrashers

ATLANTA (Ticker) — The Colorado Avalanche may be in last place
in the Western Conference, but they are not nearly as bad off as
the Atlanta Thrashers in the Eastern Conference.

The Avalanche will be looking to bounce back from a road loss
when they visit the Thrashers on Tuesday.

Colorado was riding a three-game winning streak before running
into the surging Carolina Hurricanes, suffering a 5-2 loss on
Sunday. The Avalanche took 10 penalties in the contest and
allowed 39 shots on goal.

But despite being mired in last place in the 15-team Western
Conference, Ryan Smyth and company sit only nine points out of
fifth place and seven points out of eighth in the ultra-tight

Colorado is looking to make a move during its current trip
despite an 11-17-1 record away from home this season.

The Thrashers, by contrast, are in second-to-last place in the
East – 20 points behind eighth place and have little hope

Atlanta dropped the finale of a four-game road trip, 3-1, at San
Jose on Saturday, allowing all three goals in the final period.
