Blackhawks add depth by signing Tim Brent to one-year contract

CHICAGO – The Chicago Blackhawks have added some depth by signing centre Tim Brent to a one-year contract on Thursday.

The Blackhawks acquired the 24-year-old from Pittsburgh in a trade last month.

Brent has appeared in 16 career NHL games with the Penguins and Anaheim Ducks, recording one goal.

He spent most of last season in the American Hockey League with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Brent had career highs in goals (18), assists (43) and points (61) while playing 74 regular-season games for the Penguins farm team.

He went on the share the AHL playoff lead by scoring 12 goals to help Wilkes-Barre/Scranton reach the Calder Cup final.
