Blackhawks’ Toews expected to return Sunday night against Canucks

VANCOUVER – Chicago Blackhawks rookie Jonathan Toews is expected to return against the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night after missing 16 games with a sprained left knee.

Toews was among the NHL rookie leaders with 32 points in 36 games before getting hurt during a game in Los Angeles on Jan. 1. More than a month later, he’s still fourth on Chicago scoring, and his 15 goals are second only to Phoenix’s Peter Mueller among all rookies.

“It’s been long enough at this point,” Toews said after practising with a brace on his knee Saturday. “It’s taken pretty good care of itself and I don’t think anything is at risk by going out and playing at this point. We’ve given it enough time to rest up and recover properly.”
