Blue Jackets acquire defenceman Stralman from Flames, cut nine players

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus Blue Jackets traded a 2010 third-round draft pick to the Calgary Flames for defenceman Anton Stralman on Monday.

The 23-year-old Swede played 88 games the past two seasons for the Toronto Maple Leafs before being tradedwith forward Colin Stuart to Calgary in July for centre Wayne Primeau.

Stralman, a 2005 seventh-round pick by Toronto, has four goals and 18 assists in his two seasons in the NHL. He will get a chance to play on the Blue Jackets’ league-worst power play.

The Blue Jackets also cut nine players Monday to reduce their roster to 27 players heading into Saturday’s season opener at home against Minnesota.
