Blues try to unleash power on Hurricanes

Carolina (4-2-2) at St. Louis (5-3-0) 8:30 p.m. EDT

ST. LOUIS (Ticker) — A shutout was not enough to derail the St.
Louis Blues’ scorching offense.

The Blues go for their second straight win after enduring their
first blanking of the season when they host the Carolina
Hurricanes on Thursday.

St. Louis, which ranks sixth in the NHL with an average of 3.38
goals per game, dropped a 4-0 decision to the Los Angeles Kings
on Friday. The loss came two days after a setback to the
Detroit Red Wings, marking the first time this season the Blues
lost consecutive games.

However, St. Louis – which boasts two of the league’s top
goal-scorers and the player with the second-most assists –
bounced back with a shutout of its own, a 4-0 triumph over the
Florida Panthers on Saturday.

Brad Boyes, who is tied for second in the NHL with seven goals,
netted two tallies while leading scorer Keith Tkachuk added his
eighth. Andy McDonald registered three assists, moving into a
tie for second in the league with 11.

The Hurricanes are coming off a 3-2 shootout loss to the
Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday. It was Carolina’s first setback
in its last 10 games at the Bell Centre.
