Brad Marchand scores two timely goals to help the Boston Bruins fend off the Philadelphia Flyers in the Eastern Conference wild-card race on Saturday.
It looked as though the Philadelphia Flyers were going to edge closer to a wild-card spot, until Bruins’ forward Brad Marchand spurred his team to a comeback in a Saturday matinee.
With just 14 seconds remaining in regulation, Bruins’ defenseman Dougie Hamilton fired a shot from the blueline and Marchand tipped it home to send the game into an extra frame. It was Marchand’s 20th goal of the season.
A rejuvenated Bruins squad kept pushing in overtime and with just over a minute remaining, Max Talbot picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone, chipped it up to Marchand, who buried a backhand shot behind Flyers’ goalie Steve Mason. It was Talbot’s first point as a Bruin since being acquired from the Colorado Avalanche in a trade.
The Bruins are currently holding on to the final Eastern Conference wild-card spot, with the Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers chasing close behind.
