Buffalo Sabres continue bulking up by signing forward Jeff Cowan

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Rugged winger Jeff Cowan has signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres, who continue to add muscle this off-season.

Cowan is an eight-year NHL veteran but spent last season playing for Peoria of the AHL.

He previously played two years with Vancouver, where he combined for seven goals and four assists, and 203 penalty minutes in 88 games.

Listed at six-foot-two, 205 pounds, Cowan broke into the NHL with Calgary during the 1999-2000 season, and has also played for Atlanta and Los Angeles.

In 413 career games, he has 81 points (47 goals, 34 assists) and 695 penalty minutes.

The Sabres have already bulked up in free agency this summer by signing forward Mike Grier and defenceman Steve Montador.
