The Buffalo Sabres signed ’08 second-round draft pick Luke Adam to a three-year contract Thursday and assigned him to the AHL’s Portland Pirates.
Drafted 44th overall, the forward is coming off a season in which he finished second in the voting for Quebec Major Junior Hockey League MVP award. Adam finished with career highs in goals (49) and assists (41) in 56 games with Cape Breton.
The 19-year-old finished his junior career with 220 points (113 goals, 107 assists) in 236 games split between Cape Breton, Montreal and St. John’s.
Earlier on Thursday, the Sabres recalled forward Mark Mancari from Portland as they prepare to play at Boston.
