TORONTO – The NHL Players’ Association has filled its vacant ombudsmen role with a familiar face.
Former Canadian Auto Workers president Buzz Hargrove has accepted the role on an interim basis, replacing Eric Lindros. The former NHL star served as the union’s first ombudsmen until quitting earlier this month.
His full-time replacement will be selected in the summer by a committee that includes Robyn Regehr of the Calgary Flames, Rick DiPietro and Andy Sutton of the New York Islanders and George Parros of the Anaheim Ducks.
Hargrove spent 16 years as CAW president before retiring last September.
