Canadiens forward Andrei Kostitsyn sidelined indefinitely after knee surgery

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens forward Andrei Kostitsyn will be sidelined indefinitely after undergoing surgery on his left knee Friday.

The 24-year-old left winger has not played since being hit by the Florida Panthers’ Keith Ballard during a game on New Year’s Eve.

A team spokesman says the club hopes to have further details on Kostitsyn’s recovery later Friday.

RDS network reports Kostitsyn will be out of the lineup from four to six weeks.

The injury puts into question whether Kostitsyn will be available to Belarus for the Vancouver Olympics.

He has 12 goals and 13 assists in 40 games this season.

After a disappointing start, the promising young winger caught fire in December and was a productive member of a line with Mike Cammalleri and Tomas Plekanec.
