Canadiens sign forward prospect Joonas Nattinen from Finland’s Espoo club

MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens have signed centre Joonas Nattinen to a three-year, two-way contract.

The six-foot-two 185-pound Nattinen was drafted 65th overall in 2009.

The 20-year-old has split time in recent seasons between the Espoo club’s junior and senior squads and played for Finland at the last three world junior championships, where he had four goals and six assists in 18 career games.

“Joonas is a promising young player with size and skills,” Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier said in a statement. “Despite his young age, he proved to be a very good player in a competitive professional league in Finland for the past two seasons, and also was a key member of the Finnish national team at the World Juniors last year.”
