The operation will be performed in Colorado, the Canucks said Friday.
“After further consultation with one of the leading physicians with regard to hip injuries it was decided that surgery was the best course of action,” general manager Dave Nonis said in a release. “The best long term decision for Ryan and our hockey club was to have the surgery immediately.”
According to CKNW radio in Vancouver, Kesler will be out 12 to 16 weeks.
Kesler, a key player on the Canucks penalty-killing unit, has six goals and 10 assists in 48 games this season.
