Capitals eyeing fifth straight win vs. Blues

WASHINGTON (Ticker) — The Washington Capitals were a great
story in 2007-08. This season, they are becoming a great team.

Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals seek their fifth consecutive
victory Thursday when they host the St. Louis Blues, who are
heading in the opposite direction.

The reigning Hart Trophy recipient, Ovechkin scored twice –
including the game-winner with 11 seconds remaining in overtime
as Washington recorded a 5-4 triumph over the New York Islanders
on Tuesday.

Boyd Gordon, Brooks Laich and defenseman Milan Jurcina also
scored for the Capitals, who improved to 6-1-0 over their last
seven games.

Nicklas Backstrom had two assists and Brent Johnson finished
with 35 saves Tuesday for Washington, which made a remarkable
turnaround last season – winning the Southeast Division after
finishing last the previous three campaigns.

The Blues have lost four straight contests, including a 6-3
setback to the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.

Rookie Patrik Berglund, Brad Boyes and David Backes netted a
goal apiece for St. Louis, which is 3-7-1 in its last 11 games.
