RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes have decided they will not release rookie defenceman Justin Faulk to participate at the upcoming world junior hockey championship.
“Justin has already become an integral part of our team at a very young age,” Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford said Monday in a statement. “He had the experience of representing the United States at the world junior championship last year, winning a bronze medal in Buffalo.
“We believe it is in the best interest of our organization and his development for him to remain with the Carolina Hurricanes this year.”
The rookie blue-liner has one goal and three assists in 18 games this season. The 2012 world junior tournament opens Dec. 26 in Calgary and Edmonton.
