Carolina Hurricanes re-sign forward Tuomu Ruutu to one-year deal

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed forward Tuomo Ruutu to a US$2.25-million, one-year contract.

The 25-year-old Ruutu was a restricted free agent.

“We are happy he’ll be back with our team and we hope that he can stay healthy and return to the 20-goal plateau that he reached during his rookie season,” Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford said in a statement.

Ruutu, who also earned $2.25 million last season, was acquired from Chicago at the Feb. 26 trade deadline in exchange for forward Andrew Ladd. Ruutu had 32 points (10-22) and 91 penalty minutes in 77 games last season.
