DENVER – The Colorado Avalanche have signed draft picks Cameron Gaunce and Trevor Cann, both from the OHL, to entry-level contracts.
The 19-year-old Gaunce, a defenceman, was Colorado’s top selection (50th overall) in the 2008 NHL entry draft. He had 64 points, including 17 goals and 110 penalty minutes in 67 games for the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors last season. He added 10 points in 11 playoff games.
Cann, a goalie, was the Avalanche’s third pick in the 2007 draft.
He posted a 35-15-0-1 record for the Peterborough Petes and the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League last season. The 20-year-old had six shutouts and a .919 save percentage with a 2.62 goals-against average. He was 9-4 in the playoffs.
