Corey Crawford allows unthinkable goal from center ice

Corey Crawford is going to have nightmares about the goal he gave up to Brad Stuart. With the visiting Colorado Avalanche up 3-1 on the Blackhawks, Stuart dumped the puck on Crawford from center ice, and it squeaked by the goaltender for a laugher. Colorado won by a final score of 4-1.

Corey Crawford did not have a good Friday night.

After allowing one goal through 50 minutes of action, the Chicago Blackhawks netminder gave up two power play goals in 24 seconds to the Colorado Avalanche. That wasn’t the worst of it for Crawford, though. With little over five minutes left to play and the Avalanche up 3-1, defenseman Brad Stuart flipped the puck in on Crawford from center ice before heading to the bench for a change. Stuart was just about on the Avalanche bench by the time he realized the puck had squeaked by Crawford. Yikes.

The goal was Stuart’s second of the season and one that Crawford will probably want back for the rest of his career. What’s more than that, though, and what makes the play so befuddling is Crawford looked like he was trying to play the puck up ice with every single Blackhawk was in the Chicago zone.

The Blackhawks have gone 2-1-3 on their current homestand and the loss to the Avalanche was their second straight loss.
