THN.com has learned the Anaheim Ducks have signed free agent defenseman Nick Boynton to a one-year, $1.5 million contract. Boynton’s agent, Anton Thun, confirmed the length of the deal.
The 30-year-old, who became an unrestricted free agent on July 1, played in 68 games with the Florida Panthers last year, registering five goals and 16 assists to go along with 91 penalty minutes.
A native of Nobleton, Ont., Boynton has 32 goals and 128 points to go along with 751 career penalty minutes in 505 NHL games with the Boston Bruins, Phoenix Coyotes and Panthers.
Boynton was a first round draft pick (21st overall) of the Boston Bruins in the 1999 draft. He was also drafted ninth overall by the Washington Capitals in 1997, but never signed a contract.
